Wrap vs pouch sling...

OK, I'm prepping for bb#3 and want a carrier, should I get a moby wrap, ultimate baby wrap, jelly bean sling, or peanut shell sling.....??

I've got a target gift card, so can't get something else right now.... :-D

I tried on the jelly bean sling, and liked it.. BUT they are all prints, so was thinking maybe the peanut shell solid....

I tried a nojo padded ringsling with my last bb, and it was just too padded, and I found myself tightening it all the time, and ending up with a backache.

If only there were a trial set I could use to try all the options, and then return what I don't want.

Opinions anyone??

Mostly around the house, and Sunday Church and fellowship use...

Re: Wrap vs pouch sling...

Dont judge a ring sling by the nojo, They are very hard to get tight enough I loved my Over the shoulder baby holder and it was padded, but you have to get the right size. I would try a maya wrap ring sling if you can. If you have to get one at target and they sell teh moby I would go with that as many kids prefer the upright tummy to tummy position as opposed to the laying down cradle carry that you would have to do with a pouch. I woudl reccommend a good ring sling first, but a wrap second

Re: Wrap vs pouch sling...

My DS would have nothing to do with a sling. We used an Ultimate Baby Wrap until he was about 10lbs or so (a couple of months). He loved being all snuggled up next to me. It made outings so much easier for us. I liked the fact that it had rings - I worried with the Moby that as we moved around the knots would tighten and it would be hard to take off.

Re: Wrap vs pouch sling...

hmmmm wrap it is! I would like to try a nicer ring sling, but the only ones target has are a dr. sears Balboa one that has a closed tail, lots of padding, and looks pretty much like the nojo I had before.... beside, they are too expensive...

Thanks for the input...
:-)

Same here. I have many kinds of carriers and have used them with all 3 kids, and my favorite is my lightly padded RS, my second fave is my mei tai. I also have a German woven wrap, but I'm not very good w/ it yet.

I wouldn't get the Ultimate Baby Wrap. It's the lowest quality stretchy wrap on the "major" market. I'd get a Moby.

Re: Wrap vs pouch sling...

yes, a different ring sling might be good, but they only have 1 type on target.com

Pretty sure its not that great... and it's just too much $$ for me.

hmmm maybe I can find a used one locally.... It would have to be really cheapo since I cant use the target card.

Sooo which ring slings to avoid?

Re: Wrap vs pouch sling...

Moby Wrap! They are AWESOME! You can machine wash/dry them. They are a two shoulder carrier so the weight is distributed evenly. The fabric is soft and easy to take care of. I just bought a new one for ds2 even though I still have ds1's. We used the Moby for flying cross country, LOTS of traveling, etc. DS1 had severe reflux/throwing up so the fact that it could be washed/dried was the selling point for me!

I don't think you need to get a ring sling or pouch before buying a wrap. It is easy to do, there are directions on the website and that come in the package. After you do it a couple of times.. you will be like a pro!

Good Luck!

Re: Wrap vs pouch sling...

I'm all for a moby as well. I've struggled w/ my ring sling even after lots of work the *pro's* at the cotton baby store here in STL. I know some people love them and I can see why. But some people struggle w/ them. The moby is easy and very comfy!
