Was I cheated???

Ikay - got some longies from a Mama here - she said that they where hand knit wool longies (colorway) and that she was sure who orginally made them - but they had cost $70 at first - she had got them used. I used them on my DD last night - welp as soon as her dipe got soaked through it went right thru the wool - the wool never even felt damp - she was lying in a puddle and my DH was able to change her (into a sposie) and but the longies right back on her as pj pants - they where bone dry. I washed and heavyly lanolished them myself - do you think they are 100% wool????

What do ya'll think??

Re: Was I cheated???

so you haven't tried them again since washing & lanolizing? did they smell like sheep when you washed them? i'd say give them another try (maybe during the daytime)....

Some may disagree, but I'm beginning to think that TOO MUCH lanolin actually causes leaks... part of how wool works is to absorb moisture so it can evaporate (in addition to being somewhat resistant to moisture), but if the wool is so coated that this isn't possible, they're only going to repel instead, and that could be both back towards the diaper, or through to whatever is on the other side of the wool too.

Re: Was I cheated???

I think there is a way to test if the fibre is acrylic or wool - try doing a google search - I can't remember how but i think it was fairly easy - sorry not much help.

I agree with Sarah. Might be over lanolized?
Personally, I never do an official lanolizing treatment on my wool and I have been using it overnight for almost 9 months now. I just wash with a good wool wash bar and that must have plenty of lanolin in it to do the job. I got a pair of shorties from a Mama here that were "freshly washed and lanolized" and they repelled so much I got compression leaking. I think it was just too much lanolin.

Re: Was I cheated???

Another agreement about overlanolizing. I would give it a really good wash to help remove any lanolin and then do a single lanolizing.

If there are any stray strands on the inside that you can cut a little off there are a couple of ways to test if it's wool. Take a small piece (even an inch will do) and set it in bleach. If it is wool, it will completely dissolve in the bleach after a few minutes. Also, wool will smell like hair when it's burnt.

Re: Was I cheated???

Another thought... if your baby somehow peed outside the diaper, there would be a puddle, guaranteed. Wool isn't meant to hold in a puddle. It is meant to keep the wet diaper from feeling wet to the touch on the outside.

Kindest regards,
