How did you wean your lo's?
For those who do parent led weaning, how did you start? I am getting ready to wean. I am DONE! Parker is 11 months old, and I am wanting to start the process so it will be gentle. How do I go about this?

Re: How did you wean your lo's?
I have stoped breastfeeding b/c of medical reasons. I knew it was coming:[ So when he was about 15 months I was doing the dont ask dont offer rule. Basically I just let'em nurse when he wanted. He eventually got to were he was nursin 1 or to times a day until now. He is 20 months and the doc put me on new meds. I just had to stop altogether its been about a week. I was rough:[ I really wanted him to self wean but 5 months later and still nursin and my health was at the point it needed to really be a priority. Good luc mama *hugs*

Re: How did you wean your lo's?
DD is almost 1 and i am also ready to just be done. i have been trying to do it gently and slowly. i picked the times where she eats the most and have been trying to just nurse her 3 times during the day - after breakfast, before afternoon nap/after lunch (she usually waits a little while after she eats and the feeding usually falls right in the middle of after lunch and before nap), and before bed. then she still wakes up a lot at night. in a few weeks (after she's 1 and after i've had time to research and comeup with a plan) DH and I will be weaning her from night feedings also. sorry i don't have more advice for you, but wanted to let you know you're not alone!!

Re: How did you wean your lo's?
I highly recommend Dr Jay Gordons method for any nightweaning. You can easily modify it so that it fits your needs. Works best for toddlers who are still waking up to nurse at night (i broke down and tried this for my DS when he was 20 months and still getting up 5-6 times and it worked great!!)
really gentle, doesnt push the kid into feeling like he has to stop. as for the day, I also would do 'dont ask, dont refuse' and distraction is KEY! Especially during the day when they are awake. I would definately offer a vitamin supplement or something aside from solids if you are going to wean at a year, especially with cold and flu season upon us! If baby isnt getting the immunities and vitamins from the BM, you might look into a vitamin suppliment (they make liquid multi vitamins, or ask your Dr)
