Baby "kneading" while nursing?

I'm not sure why DD does this, lol. It reminds me of a kitten nursing on its mother. She sorta pulls her head back a little and kneads with one of her hands on the breast. The problem is, sometimes the way she does this causes poor latch and she keeps popping off....making it harder for the letdown to come. Does anyone else have this issue or am I alone?

Hmmm, well, maybe thats what she's doing then, LOL. It seems as though my letdown takes longer when she does this.....is it possible that maybe the letdown was coming down too strong before she started doing it? She started this about 2 months ago....

Re: Baby "kneading" while nursing?

I would say 1) it's a way of getting your letdown to well...let down and 2) it VERY well could be a way of slowing down if she's pulling completely off. Many babies pull away, up, down or pop off because they are getting too much too fast, or it's hitting their mouth's/throat in a new way.

I would talk to her and say "DD please don't do that, you will hurt mama's" even if you think she won't understand- you would be suprised. I have this issue with my kids- and if they keep doing it after I've told them not to I will put my shirt up and they get mad and then we nurse again after I've said "dont' pop off like that- it hurts" and we try to nurse again.

Hugs!
