What about Dawn dish soap?

I have been a loyal Dawn fan since childhood. As I got older I thought it was one of the better products since 'they' have used it to clean critters up after oil spills so it couldnt be all that bad right? Well, I recently saw that 7th Generations had a dish soap available. It was only a dollar more so I tried it out....I hate it I end up using 3x's as much while washing dishes and it doesnt work in making my own pump soap So is Dawn truly that un-green? Of course if anyone can suggest another brand I'd be willing to give it a shot...

It is petroleum based and contains phosphates. I haven't used dawn for washing dishes before so I can't compare. We use Ecover dish soap and have been happy with it. Any vegetable oil based casile soap is a greener option. I have a book on making non-toxic cleaners and it lists Palmolive and Ivory as being the mildest detergent options that are not vegetable based.

I have such a hard time with this as well as dishwasher soap. We've tried a ton and I just can't find any that I'm completely satisfied with.

Right now we are trying to just use dishwasher soap, and not any others.... if I can find castille soap, that's what we'r switching to for the "Handwash only" items we have.

I've luckily not had to strip our diapers... and we haven't dawn here in Germany except on the military bases...

Re: What about Dawn dish soap?

I had a naturopath tell me once that some of the unconventional testing for allergies and chemicals that are out now was showing the the dyes in some of the dish soaps were showing up in peoples blood streams. Yikes!!! I stopped using any soap with color when I found that out. I really like Bio-kleen products. It seems I had heard at one point that they weren't as green as I thought (I could be wrong, maybe it was another company) but it's honestly what I can afford from the selection that I have.

Silly question!!! What does it mean to strip your diapers? That is a new one for me.
