Introduced squash

Hello My DD is just shy(a few days) of 5 months. She has been showing some signs of being ready for some solids so I got some squash yesterday. I had no idea she would like it so much. She ate almost 2.5 ounces of it!! She has been EBF for the whole 5 months and I feel comfortable starting her with some solids because she still likes mommy best

Re: Introduced squash

Good to know. My dd was 5 months yesterday and I think we may start introducing things these next few weeks (she has been ebf, as well). I did make butternut squash soup last weekend, but didn't make any for her. It was no fun to peel & cut!

Re: Introduced squash

My twin dd are eight months. They still like squash the best, I think.

Re: Introduced squash

I think my daughter likes squash the best, too. It was the first food we started her on, so maybe that's why?

OMG. I was cutting up a butternut squash a few weeks ago to make DD and I ended up cutting my finger really bad and needed stitches... I did not even think to peel! What an idiot! Now I know for next time! lol

Re: Introduced squash

My 6 mos loves squash, too. It was his second food (after sweet potato).

Easier still than cutting/peeling, etc.... -- just half it (ok, so some cutting), scrape the seeds out, put it either cut side up into a casserole with a lid and teeny bit of water in the bottom, or face down on a cookie sheet, and bake it for about 45 mins at 350. The flesh scoops out of the skin beautifully and no need for peeling or cutting a great deal. You may need to adjust the time for the size/freshness of the squash.
