Question How do I change sizes on Circular needles?

I am knitting a hat with size 6 needles and want to change to size 8. I am at the beginning of my row but my piece is all connected now. How do I do this?

ETA: UPDATE--Well, I just tried to slip the stitches onto the larger needle-it took 10 minutes to move 10 stitches (it didn't help that I was trying to move them from an Addi Turbo to an Addi Natura) because they were so darn tight and I then gave up and decided to move them back and ended up with a handful of dropped stitches. So then I just started knitting onto the new needle and it worked great. Thanks mamas!!

Easiest is just to slip the stitches on to other set of needles one at a time to make sure you don't drop a stitch. First time I switched needles I lost stitches along the way. Make sure you have a crochet needle handly to pick the stitch back up in case.

Basically you can hold them just as if you were going to knit but just don't work them and slide one at a time onto other needles. HTH!

I tried doing that but the stitches were too tight since I am going up 2 sizes. Should I just stretch them to fit? Thanks!

PS: My baby is named Kellan too!

Neat, I haven't met someone with a son named Kellan (it's mine and my husband's names combined!).

Are you still a little new to knitting. If so you might be knitting tight which a lot of new knitters do in the beginning. The stitches will probably be a little snug going from 6-8 but shouldn't be impossible to move to other set. I was such a tight knitter to start with I had to switch from using bamboo needles because it was nearly impossible for me to knit. I know I tend to knit tight so I use addi's and the stitches slide much more easily for me with those.

Re: How do I change sizes on Circular needles?

When I'm knitting a pattern that has me changing needle size mid pattern, I just start knitting with the size up. So the needle in my left hand is smaller than the needle in my right. I've never had a problem with it, and even though you might think the transition row would stand out or look very different, I've never had that happen!

Good luck.

I just start knitting with the new set off the old. No issue.

Yep, I just start knitting onto the new needle at the appropriate spot too. It seems more difficult than it is. I had the exact same question the first time I used circular needles!

I also just start knitting with the new needle. When I first started, I tried to slip the stitches onto a bigger needle and failed miserably. Knitting with the new needle in your right hand is the way to go.
