How much does a delivery cost?

We are trying to figure out how much to set aside in our flexible spending account for the delivery. We pay 10% of whatever the negotiated charges are, but don't know what it will be. In my previous pregnancies we just paid one copay and were done, and never saw any of the hospital bills. We are assuming a normal vaginal delivery.

I honestly think it depends on where you deliver, etc. Prices can vary SO much from place to place.

With Camden we paid nearly $7K out of pocket. I don't know exactly how much of that was just the delivery. (That's with no anesthesia, other drugs, etc. and we only stayed in the hospital 1 night.) I was high risk, so I'm sure that plays into a bit.

Call your hospital, or better yet, your Dr/midwife and find out. They can tell you.

not sure here, but with ds we had insurance and I STILL ended up paying over $4,000 so it has to be more than that.

Re: How much does a delivery cost?

I know that my doctor charges $5000 for the pregnancy/delivery. But the insurance negotiates it down to less, and I don't think I can find out how much less until after the fact. I am somewhat high risk, so I know that I will have to be induced and spend two nights in the hospital afterward. I really need to call the hospital and get a ballpark figure, though that would also be negotiated down by the insurance company. Anything extra like medications or an ultrasound would add to the amount we owe as well. It was so much simpler when I paid one copay and was done with it.

Re: How much does a delivery cost?

Way to freaken much!!!

My first was $900 something to the Dr's office, then we got a hospital bill for $3000 for me and $1000 for the baby. We just paid her for her a year ago...LOL

My second was free...whoo hoo! I went with Medicaid because there was NO way we could budget in a birth again.

This one, we could have still qualified for Medicaid but we chose to go ahead and just use our insurance. I know I had to pay $500 to the dr's office...but no clue on the hospital yet.

ITA I would totally not be able to afford it either.

I know my Uncle who lives in the US they owed 70,000 for having 3 babies in the US, he is a self employed massage therapist he makes a lot of money because he is the massage therapist for the NY Symphony and travels with them but still that's crazy!

I think his wife had to have 3 C-sections so that's why it was so much. Not totally sure though just know that's how much it was.

to you Mama's
