Re: Everything you need to know about mama cloth

Thanks. I've made about 10 different pads and I'm not too keen on any of them. I'll have to try some of these. I really want to get some OBV to make some mama pads.

Ok, I've now made about 12 pads using at least 5 patterns. I've foud my fave pattern:

http://theuncommoncrafter.blogspot.c...-tutorial.html

I use it for nights, then I altered it to make the wings a bit smaller for daytime use. And I've fallen in love with microfleece and minky tops. I'll never use anything else!!!

Re: Everything you need to know about mama cloth

i am not sure on pp absorbancy yet, i am still looking up on that one, i am making my first ones in the next week or two for me but won't test them out till feb!! i have made some for others with 2 layers of microfiber and 2 layers of good flannel. but that is the only combo i have tried.

i would think you would only want to add one or two extra layers because you are already increasing the absorbancy in the sheer size of the pad (usually they are close to double the size of a reg. pad,) so depending on the fabric you are using cotton i would add 2 layers and maybe play around with mixing up the types- and for hemp and bamboo 1-2 layers extra i would think would be good.

if you are using microfiber i wouldn't do more than 3 layers, i would personally think 2 layers of microfiber along with 2 layers of another fabric would be good.

i liked that one too but then found i am really not an envelope/pocket style mama cloth person. i just make it so my base and absorbant layers are seperate so i still get easy dry, but don't have to "dig in" to get the pad out for wash day!! but it is nice you can vary the absorbancy to what you need that way!

Re: Everything you need to know about mama cloth

I asked in a diff thread (because I didn't see this one) but what type of fleece do you use for the backs? I know a lot of people recommend the Windpro but do you know what "level" to use?
