YES!!!! ALWAYS even at 7 months old, as soon as my son sits up he burps LOUD!! like a man it's so funny.

But I hate that they tell people that...because just like you, my son HAS to burp, from day one he did. When baby's nurse they still breath so they still take breaths while they are drinking so air will still get in. And like you said when baby goes off, then on, then off, then on, they are taking in big gulps of air before going back on.

My ds #1 had gassy, almost colic symptoms and burping really helped.

Ds #2 just burped on his own, I didn't make any special effort.

My DH was great about burping the kids, I think it made him feel special.

For me, my milk came so fast, I think they gulped air for a while as they gulped milk.

Both of mine needed to burp, and DS2 had GERD horribly, so bad he was hospitalized a week after he was born. And he was, and still is Breastfed.

Not that you need any more feedback but yep - all three of mine were burped. If I didn't - man the'red be Heck to pay (or at least more of my shirts to launder )

But this DS has been by far the worst as far as needing to burp! he burps like a man sometimes (as a PP said )

my ydd HAD to be burped until she was 6 months old or she would vomit up nearly everything that she ate. Now, at 10 months, I still do it mostly out of habit...I have noticed though that if I skip it, she'll spit up.

Oh, yes, I had to burp her! I know that they say that BF babies spit up less and everything, so I would have hated to see how much she spit up if she was FF!!!

I do remember with ODD that as she got older, she'd burp on her own more. I remember her sitting up right after nursing, and a loud belch!
All I know is that YDD STILL needs to be burped and often! So glad to hear I'm not the only one!

Re: Silly ?: Do you burp your BF baby?

Both my babes were EBF for the first six months and needed to be burped. DS #2 especially otherwise he would spit up. The trick with him was to just set him upright and maybe rub his back gently. If I actually patted him he would vomit.

Yeah, I had to. Now at 6 mo I don't, but he still spits up a lot. Well compared with my first that didn't spit up ever!
