I don't. I start right around the recommended 6 month mark if they seem developmentally ready.

Re: Do you delay solids?

With my latest addition, I waited until 6 1/2 months. He showed no interest until then. I started feeding him either vegetable baby foods or avacado or refried beans once a day. He didn't have any problems with any of those things. Then I got silly and gave him mashed potatoes at Thanksgiving and he had icky poop all day the next day, so I'm giving his tummy a break. Poor thing. I'm not in a hurry and he doesn't seem to be either. He's growing great and has plenty of energy.

Re: Do you delay solids?

I waited until my daughter was 10-11 months to give her little pieces of fruit & vegetables, but it wasn't an everyday thing. She didn't really start getting more until she was over a year old...she wasn't too interested until then.

Re: Do you delay solids?

Originally I wanted to delay. but his dad and my mother kept nagging about it so I gave him a little taste @ 6 months. He wants nothing to do with solids, yay so I'll be waiting even more now.

Re: Do you delay solids?

I waited around 10-11 months when she could feed herself. We skipped the pureed stuff and the stuff she ate was like banana and avocado, but she didn't eat a lot, but gave her a little sometimes to chew on while we ate dinner. She didn't really start eating meals until she was around 13 months.

Re: Do you delay solids?

with my dd's I waited to introduce cereal/food until around 8 months old but my son was having weight issues so we introduced cereal a few weeks before he turned 6 months old, and now he's 6 1/2 mos and is eating fruits/veggies three times a day, per our pediatrician and lactation consultant's recommendations. Thankfully my son is gaining weight and looks much healthier now (before his bones were starting to stick out ). I think it just depends on the child/circumstance. Sara

We followed the Rapley Method and started at 6 months.
