Re: OB says to stop nursing- HELP!

I think your OB is probably unfamiliar with tandem nursing.

Re: OB says to stop nursing- HELP!

I would report her to the college of nurses for giving advice that is not evidence based...just think about how many babies have been deprived b/c of her bad advice.

argh.

And do what feels right to you.

Unless you are extremely small... IE 5ft 6 and 100 lbs... Don't worry about it. There is no truth in that. I know doctor's know best, but at the same time a lot of them are just blowing smoke. So many people are judgemental of nursing a baby over 6-8 months. I would chalk it up alot to that.

I totally agree about the doctor's blowing smoke...I have heard many stories lately of docs telling their patients that their milk will DRY UP at 6 months and they will have to FF!!! Can you believe that! What a MORON! and to think that we put the life of our children in these people's hands!

My OB told me I HAD to take BC at 6 months because the lower nursing would cause my hormones to change. Well yes that's mostly true....but that doesn't mean i HAVE to take them. It didn't sound like she was ASKING if I wanted them. I think I threw the script away LOL. I know I can GET pg while bfing, I am not taking chances but there are other methods than BC pills. Ok I am rambling......yada yada

Your Doc is off her rocker! Just make sure you're getting plenty of water, increase your calories by 600 a day and you should be fine.

ITA, Just keep an eye on any cramping. And make sure you are eating well and taking vitamins. My sisters RE told her to stop nursing becuase she could not get pregnant again, but since you are already pregnant.....nurse away!

Re: OB says to stop nursing- HELP!

I was going to suggest LLL. I would also send a packet, or take it in to your next visit, with the Correct information so she can stop giving people the wrong info and misleading those that are less likely to stick up for themselves.

I only nursed until 9 months, but that was my decision from a medical comfort level - extreme mastitis constantly. I say nurse as long as it's right for you and as long as it's healthy for all involved.

Strange how conflictin the information we get from drs offices can be. They suggest nursing until 2yo but then there's all this other stuff they throw at people. No wonder so many have no clue what to think and do!
