Painful blocked ducts! HELP

DD is 10 month old. The last few days she has barely nursed because she is not feeling well (fevers, stuffy nose, possibly teething)

This morn when I woke up, I was engorged and after I got her to nurse a bit, I have some horribly blocked ducts. I don't have a pump so I can't do that, but I can barely keep DD latched on long enough to wait for letdown muchless get the blocks out. I tried warm washclothes and massaging to get them to release, but didn't work. Any other ideas?? I have really been pushing nursing and she just wont, she ends up biting me and crying.

I should mention, I've done vics and tried to nurse her in a room where the vaporizer is running, and I've done saline drops w/her.

Re: Painful blocked ducts! HELP

When I had a blocked duct I was told to apply hot compresses, massage (dh did it b/c it was soooo painful for me to even TOUCH!) and NURSE or PUMP a LOT!!! I pumped at the time b/c my guy was just 10 days old. It finally released and felt 100x better!! I had a good sized lump under my armpit with it and it was awful!!
Hot compresses, massage and increased feedings/pumping!!
ETA: Can you borrow a pump from someone???

Re: Painful blocked ducts! HELP

Hope you can get that pump from WIC. If you can't try hand-expressing some in the shower...

or try a small hand-pump, those are pretty cheap and usually available at places like Wal-mart.
HTH!

WIC should be able to give you one today since it's kind of an emergency. would DH be willing to help out?

edit, I just saw the single part. so I'm out of new ideas

hopefully wic will give you pump

The PP gave you good advice. Just keep trying to hand express and getting your DD to nurse .

have you tried nursing in a different positing? like having your breast hang down and your dd laying down and nursing over the top of her...kinda letting gravity do it's work? did that make sense? i know how painful a clogged duct can be just keep nursing and massage...i hope it dissolves soon! good luck with WIC!
