see...thats what I thought too, but the doctor didn't think so...ive read opinions on both sides and honestly im confused. My other intact boy at age 4 can and I think thats why I figured he should be able too because I had always read that it should retract on its own by age 3/4. So what age should it retract by?

For most boys its around puberty or late childhood. Some boys can take up to later teens. Do not circ him, mama. Hes fine. Honestly, i'd even find another doc. If she is giving you this info she knows nothing about the intact penis!

I'd stop using the cream and let his skin retract on its own in its own time. Just like periods, every person is different. Boys too

Im desperate...he has had the cream for a cple days, haven't seen a ton of improvement,...suggestions? TIA.
Just wondering what is the problem your son is experiencing? It's perfectly normal for a boy to not be fully retractable until puberty.

I would just make it clear to your per that you dont want to use the cream and want him to retract in his own time. Tell her you'll talk about it again after puberty but no soon (unless something is wrong, of course). Thats way she doesnt keep bringing it up and trying to convince you its something it isnt.

Re: Top ten reasons not to circumcise your son

Median age of retractibility is 10.5 years. Many boys are not retractable until 18 or longer. There is nothing wrong with your son's penis, and every boy is different. My firstborn was retractible at 3; my second is almost 7 and still not totally. Actually, one of the ways that boys become retractible is by masturbation, which is why it usually happens by the end of their teenage years. The American compulsion to see the glans is psychological in nature; due to their being used to circumcised penises, they find it uncomfortable to not be able to visualize the glans, but switch sexes to see how weird that is: have you ever seen your actual clitoris (not just the hood)? Do you need to see your daughter's?

If you love this doctor for other reasons, you have two options: 1) Stop using the cream and don't mention it again, and no penis checks allowed; 2) Stop using it and present her with credible medical information: http://www.doctorsopposingcircumcision.org/ has lots of great leaflets that are appropriate for doctors. I would choose option 2 because her misinformation will surely hurt other children.

Finally, I would recommend leaving off the cream, not because I am a doctor, but because it would not be good to give your son the sense that something is wrong with his penis. I'd explain to him that the doctor was wrong because there has been new information since she went to medical school; there's nothing wrong with his penis and everyone is different and his foreskin will retract when it is ready, and not to cause himself pain; and to use this opportunity to point out how doctors are not infallible and that he alone is responsible for his health, in consultation with professionals, not strict obedience.
