anyone have experience w/homemade finger paint?

I saw some recipes but they call for food coloring.....does that stain their little hands?

Anyone have a tried and true recipe?
Can it be kept in a container or has to be used right away?

Looking for a cheap alternative to buying it...KWIM.
Thanks
Deb

Great questions! I didn't even realize you could make it yourself! Can someone post a recipe? As for staining, I don't think it would stain any more than cake frosting does, which comes off easily with soap and water.

ds did a painting using karo syrup and food coloring. Teacher poured syrup on thick paper, added a few drops of food coloring and ds finger painted away. (He also enjoyed eating it!) Dried fast and shiny. Not sure how it keeps long term though.
