afraid to use diaper cream...

so i totally did my homework when i was pregnant and bought some 'cd safe' diaper ointments, but now that dd has a little bit of a rash i'm afraid to use them! have you used and had success or problems with Burt's Bees Baby Bee Diaper Ointment or California Baby Calming Diaper Rash Cream? thanks!

I've never used those, I actually use an unsafe one that I found works amazing on dd before we started on cloth and I just can't give it up but if you are nervous just use a fleece liner. I have a bunch of fleece that I get at the fabric store or even walmart in the remnants and I just cut it into strips and lay them in dd's diapers. When they get icky I just toss them without having to worry about the $$ since I pay about $1-$3 for a whole yard.

I use fleece liners too. I had the Burt's Bees & we also have Weleda which is supposed to be ok, but when I use the fleece liners, they still have ointment residue after they are washed so I'm glad I used the liners. You can get cheap fleece @ the fabric store or Walmart (less than $5 for enough) or you can cut up an old sweatshirt or blanket.

Another thing other mamas have done is to cut up a flannel receiving blanket into strips and use that as a liner. (just in case you need something now & don't have time/ability to go buy fleece right away)

I never used those but I used to use creamy desitin when DS was in CDs and had success but with DD, we've used London Frogg's Frogg Jelly and love it. You should try it. I only use a liner since it can stain the diapers a greenish hue but it is CD safe. It does on smoothly so DD doesn't cry when she has a really bad rash when I apply it and she did with everything else. (desitin, NE diaper rash salve, and a beautrix (sp?) butt cream). Frogg Jelly

Re: afraid to use diaper cream...

quite possibly a dumb question, but do you wash the liners w/the diaper laundry?

Re: afraid to use diaper cream...

I haven't used those brands (we use Aveeno, which is supposedly also CD safe), but I always use fleece liners too. Sooo cheap and easy to make and I feel much better using them than taking any chance with my diapers. And yes, just throw everything in the wash. If there's a ton of cream on a liner, I throw it in with our regular laundry instead of our diapers though.

You can with desitin creamy but not regular desitin since it contains fish oil. You have to read labels on your diaper creams to see if the ingredients contain any type of fish oil. If it does, then the oil could spread to other diapers and make all of your laundry it is washed with smell like fish...dead, rotting fish.

I use california baby. I have for several months with no liner and no problems. No staining and no repelling. I love how it smells too! Watch out though because it is really runny and comes out fast.
