how to measure rise for diaper?

I know to measure for pants/soaker to measure over a diaper but what about measuring rise for a diaper? Do you measure without a diaper on? My ds's rise is 15 inches this way and it seems short for a 1.5 year old.. when I look at diapers the thigh and waist measurement is always way off from his rise and I don't know which size to pick!

Re: how to measure rise for diaper?

i dunno cause my son's rise is always off, too. my son is 15 months and I say he has a 16 1/2 inch rise. I put a diaper on him and then measure end to end of the diaper. I think I suck at measuring. Most things fit him just fine, though. My waist and thigh measurements always go in the same chart, but the rise is always off, too. I dunno.

Re: how to measure rise for diaper?

I was told to measure with the diaper on from belly button down, under and back up to the opposite side of the belly button. I think a lot of companies seem to base the rise on the tape measured measurement of the diaper stretched out.

Re: how to measure rise for diaper?

I have been wondering the same thing. I have read to do it both ways depending on the maker/seller. I have a SOS that seems to be too short in the rise for my DD I measured it and it is about 16 inches. I measured her with a diaper on (after I already had the SOS) and she measured about 17.5 inches. So, it makes sense to me that she should be measured with a diaper on. If I had measured her without she would probably have been 16 or less and lead me to believe she could wear a diaper that short. But, it looks like a bikini on her in the front. lol This sucks too because I really want to try a medium SposoEasy, but the rise looks too short and I have read other people say this was their only complaint about those dipes. Bummer. I could try the Large with Aplix but DD loves to rip those right off. She takes snaps off too, but at least I have another minute or so to get to her before it's completely off. Sposie's and duct tape seems so much easier at this very moment. Yikes!

You measure rise for a diaper WITHOUT the diaper on You measure from where you want it to sit in the front to about an inch above crack in the back I measure from right under the belly in the front as that is where most diapers sit on my kiddos around to an ich above the crack in the back

Re: how to measure rise for diaper?

Thank you! I've been trying for days to figure out how to get an accurate rise measurement. Now I can order with a little more confidence.
