BF and my plane ride!

So DD and I are heading up to Maine to visit family on Wednesday. We have a 1.5 hour flight. I have had some friends suggest that I give my DD a bottle or paci during takeoff to alleviate pressure on her ears. Um... She doesn't take a bottle or paci, so I am wondering if anyone has nursed during takeoff, or if this is even necessary. Thanks for any advice! (Ideas for entertaining my 9 MO during flight welcome as well!! )

We were just talking about it in another thread (the back 2 basics Firday thread if you want to take a peek...towards the end of it) and it seems to be a very common suggestion to nurse during take off to help with the pressure build on on the LO's ears.

took a trip to FL for thanksgiving w/ my almost 6 mo and i nursed her on all take-offs and she had no problems! good luck!

I always nursed my first dd during take-offs and landings, just make sure you burp them afterwards (I forgot the first time we flew and she threw up all over daddy once we were in the airport) I plan to nurse my new dd in a few days when we fly to FL!

yes nursing works, yes it is necessary ..

bring lots of small toys.. like 1 for every 10 mins and just give her one at a time.. i took my DD to hawaii (12 hours) when she was 10.5 months ..

Yes, it works great. And if she's awake, probably necessary. She needs to suck/swallow on something to help her ears.

The one thing I didn't know until my second flight - if they're asleep, its ok to let them sleep! I though I HAD to have my DS sucking on something. My second time flying, he slept through the entire plane ride and was fine.

Yep, from Boston to Paris it was my then 9m old and I. Remember to bring lots of snacks that are interesting-cheerios/kix and grapes( quartered) we things my son like to play with. Also a favorite book. Ds loved the little air vents that you can control.
