Unhappy Tired of the attitude.

I am seriously worn out from the attitude from my ODD (oppositional defiant disorder) and ADHD 6.5-year-old little boy.

He was going to have the opportunity to open a present early, and starts mouthing back. I like that he has his own opinion on things, and I like it when he expresses them. I do not, however, like it when he is rude about it or disrespectful (to anyone, it does not matter the age).
He has a kind heart, but when he gets into his "ODD moods" it is out of control and I feel like the worlds worst parent!!!!!!
I didn't raise him to be mouthy and rude, I raised him to be sweet and kind hearted towards others and to talk through things when he has issues (not get mouthy and rude) which he is good at doing when I usually remind him. Not today though!

So, he starts saying "Whatever. They're MY presents, and you can't do anything!" complete with the beautiful rolling eyes effect he picked up from is older cousin.
I told him he was being rude and needed to go into the other room because I wasn't going to listen to his nastiness, but if he decided to make the choice to talk to me nicely like I'm talking to him then he could come back in the room.
He continued saying he could open it if he wanted to because it's his and not mine. I ended up telling him that he does not get to open that one present early anymore, and if he keeps it up I have no problem taking back some of the toys I bought to the store (not toys from Santa, but toys from mean old mom).
I told him I work hard to make the money it costs to purchase those toys, and I enjoy giving them to him when he is nice (of course, not 24/7 because that's unrealistic) ... not when he is being rude to me.

I feel like I'm losing my marbles today and am the worst Mom in the world.

My dds are driving me insane! The attitude coming from my 6 y/o and almost 3 y/o is too much to handle sometimes.

Grateful that you shared this. I feel like I'm rowing in my little boat of insanity alone right now.

Is it bedtime yet?????

Glad I'm not the only one with a mouthy 6 yo, hang in there mama, you're not alone. We all feel like that when our kids don't act the way we have taught them.

Re: Tired of the attitude.

I have a mouthy (just turned) 7 y.o. I have been getting a lot of disrespectful attitude from him lately.

Hang in there. Consistency and following through with what you say will put him in his place and know who is boss.

If you explaain the consequenses of his actions to him and he then procedes to continue doing them, you HAVE to follow through with the punishment. It is SO hard and it hurts sometimes feeling like you are a horrible mom because your child acts that way towards you. {{{hugs}}}

Re: Tired of the attitude.

Hey Blair its Becca!!! I cannot believe he is already 6 almost 7. This age is proving to be tough for me also. The mouth and the attitude is enough to make you wanna scream. You are doing great at standing your ground though. Send me a message so we can touch base again.
