Here's a simple cake recipe, you don't even need a mixer, you just mix it with a spoon. It comes out as a dense cake, almost like a brownie, but it's good.

1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 cup sugar
1/4 cup baking cocoa
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1 teaspoon white vinegar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup cold water

Heat oven to 350. Grease bottom and side of a round pan (9x1.5 in) or square pan (8x8) with shortening and lightly flour.

Mix flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, and salt in medium bowl. Mix vinegar, oil, and vanilla in another bowl. Vigorously stir oil mixture and water into flour mixture about 1 minute or until well blended. Immediately pour into pan.

Bake 30-35 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool 15 minutes. Serve warm or cool with ice cream.

Re: Simple recipes for a beginner??

My family makes a really good casserole.

ingredients:

1 box medium shells
1 lg can diced tomatoes (you can also use the whole tomatoes and just cut them)
American cheese (we use the white, the kind at the deli, not the individually wrapped kind)
butter or margerine
Salt,pepper,italian seasoning, garlic powder

Cook pasta, when done, put in casserole dish. Add diced tomatoes, salt/pepper/italian seasoning/garlic powder (I just add alittle of each and then tase it to see if I think it tastes good.) Mix pasta and tomatoes top w/american cheest put alittle bit of butter on each piece of cheese then put in microwave for about 5mins (I watch it because its just in there to melt the cheese.) Once cheese is melted its done. I've also added chicken to the recipe before, you either use left over chicken or I've boiled some before.

I will have to think about recipes that I make but Racheal Ray has some great recipes. I just got one of cookbooks at the library and was surprised how tasty ( and easy!) most of the recipes seem.

I would say if you don't have a crockpot, definitely invest in one. Its really a great place to start and it can't be simpler than throwing everything in, turning it on and walking away only to have a fabulous dinner that evening.

I have a bunch of easy recipes though, I find some and post them

What kinds of food do you like to eat?

I have a really easy baked chicken recipe. First you use cut up chicken piece with the bone in and skin on. Clean off anything gross. lol Melt butter in baking dish. Put flour, salt and pepper on a plate. roll damp chicken in flour mix. Then place skin side down in baking dish. Bake 45 minutes at 350 then turn and bake skin side up for 15 minutes.

Good Luck!!

Re: Simple recipes for a beginner??

Spagehtti Sauce: I make this then I separate it into containers and put it in the freezer, then when we want it for dinner we just put the sauce in the microwave.

1 pound of ground beef
1 large can of crushed tomatos and stewed tomatos
1 can of tomato soup
1 can of tomato paste
1/2 onion chopped
1 cup sliced mushrooms
1 red pepper chopped
1 cloves garlic chopped finely
1 tsp of basil and oregano

spray large pot with cooking spray (pam) place ground beef, red pepper, onion, garlic and mushrooms and cook until beef is brown and veggies are softened. Then added remaining ingredients and bring to a boil stirring often to prevent beef from sitting on the bottom and burning. Take off heat and you're done!

I often make baked spagehtti too buy tossing spagehtti noodles in a casserol dish and mixing with sauce then topping with cheese and baking at 350F for about 20 minutes.

Super easy and yummy meatloaf
1 pound ground beef
1 can mushroom soup
1 egg
1cup quick oats

toss all ingredients in a bowl and mix together, spray a bread pan with cooking spray, press in meat mixture and bake at 350F for one hour. I usually serve it with rice and veggies. If you don't have one buy a rice cooker all you have to do is put in 2 parts water to 1 part rice and push the button to cook it

Sheppards Pie
1 pkg club house sheppards pie mix
1 pound ground beef
3 potatos peeled, boiled and mashed (I put milk and butter in my potatos when I mash them)
2 cups cooked mixed veggies.

cook ground beef then add shepards pie mix with 3/4 cup water. Place on the bottom of a casserol dish and top with veggies then potatos then bake at 350F for about 30 minutes.

Also Allrecipes.com is a great site for recipes, I like that there are usually photos and recipes are rated by users. Have fun cooking!
