Smile Which is better a potty seat or a potty chair?

I'm getting ready to start thinking about potty training! And I'm curious which is better a potty seat that goes on the big potty or a potty chair?

I've used both and had a much better experience with the potty seat. I let DD pick out a seat and step stool at the store. DD never had to get used to the big potty chair and I didn't have to dump and clean a chair every time. It's also easier when shopping or traveling, I bought a fold up seat to keep in the diaper bag. I got a potty chair with a seat that can also go on the big potty. I like this setup because I think ds still feels a little strange getting up on the big potty, but when he's ready to it's easier to clean. Plus the potty chair doubles as a step stool.

Neither. I just help them balance on the big seat until the learn to balance themselves, usually after about a week. My 2yo uses a stool to get himself up to the toilet and he turns himself around and sits down. Now if only he would actually PL......

Re: Which is better a potty seat or a potty chair?

We started with the potty chair, since it was easier for him to access and we could put it out in the main room where he could run to it right away and just get used to the idea of the potty in general. I hated it though beacuse I had to clean it. I was glad when he was finally accomplished enough to use the big potty, and we got a seat that flips up and down and attached to our seat. We introduced the potty chair at around 2, and the seat at around 3.

I bought the potty chair but my DD would just get up and walk away because she didn't want to sit on it so I bought a potty seat and she's stuck up there so she can't get down. lol. Just make sure you get a stepping stool to assist them when they're ready to do it themselves.

Re: Which is better a potty seat or a potty chair?

I did EC with both of mine. We used a baby Bjorn Little Potty (not the big potty chair) until they were big enough to sit on the big toilet alone.
They can stand over it, get on and off easily, their feet stay firmly on the floor so they feel safer and more stable, and it puts them in a squatting position for easier pooping.
The potty is very small, and portable, but designed to hold even a big kid (or a mom in an emergency). They are easy to clean, just rinse and dump, and cost about 10 dollars. There are lots of knockoffs in a similar style that cost even less.

We tried lots of other potties, but this is all we have now. I keep one in the house and one in the car.

Re: Which is better a potty seat or a potty chair?

I started out with the potty chair. We sat in the lr reading books until she was comfortable on it. Then she decided she wanted to go on the "big toilet" so I got her the seat for it and a stool. lol its funny cause I just pulled out the chair today for her lil sis (17 mo) and my older dd (2.5) decided she needed to go potty on it.

I've found all of my kids have been different. Some preferred the seat, and some the chair. We own both, and just let the child choose what they are more comfortable with.
