Dying Wool ?

I have a pair of wool shorts that I got yesterday in the mail. I want them to be a dark grey or black, they person I got them from made them grey, but they are really a light grey. Is there a way that I can dye them and make them darker? What would I use?

Re: Dying Wool ?

you might have to get some professional fiber dyes to do that. as far as i know it's pretty hard to get black (or similar) from stuff you might find around the house. i know people use coffee/tea - but that would probably make it brownish.

hopefully someone else will have a suggestion.

can I change the color of them then? Like blue? I just do not like the color of them right now. Luckly they were cheap, $15 so I am not out much if I ruin them.

Re: Dying Wool ?

yeah, you can overdye it with blue/purple/red/green i'd bet.

Kool Aid is actually really easy to use & get nice colors.

maybe this will give you an idea of what you might come up with (check out the colors on the right - that's over a darker brownish color) http://www.thepiper.com/fiberart/koo...rchart-max.jpg

or http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEfall02/FEATdyedwool.html for some other color choices (those are on white yarn but maybe it'll give you some inspiration)...plus directions on how to do it

are they 100%wool? if not, it could be interesting to say the least to try to get the dye to take..
