That being said, I think the reasoning behind the requirement of testing finished products is that the lead levels in the raw materials may be considered "safe", but once an item, say an AIO diaper is assembled, you're looking at more than just fabric that could be adding to the lead level (additional fabrics, thread, snaps, aplix, etc.)
True, but those things are also bought from bigger businesses and wouldn't those business have to have the products tested for lead as well. It is going to hurt people like WAHM's who are sometimes supplementing income as it is, going to have to pay out of pocket to get a second test done. It just seems overkill to me. More money in the rich man's pocket.

And I haven't heard of a testing quote of less than $500. $100 would be a bargain. Besides that, the testing that they want done come August (3rd party in a lab) is a destructive, wet-testing process. It destroys whatever it tests. So there truly will be no such thing as a one of a kind products.

I'd love to know the answer to this!! Don't get me wrong, I'm glad the FSOT will still be up and running (maybe? Possibly?) but can you sell your new stuff to Canadians?

I'm having such a hard time trying to understand all this!! A few friends and I just started making things to sell, but as of Feb, we can't sell to the US!!

How do I find a place that is certify to test products IN CANADA?

GAH!!

Re: CPSIA Laws.

Here is a great website that breaks down the cost of lab testing a simple screenprinted t-shirt:
http://www.happypandababy.com/blog/2...r-happy-panda/
This new bill is definately there and is going to hurt a lot of companies, including mine. We need to take a stand!

Re: CPSIA Laws.

Hi Everyone,

I just want to mention something which is OFTEN skippen in regards of CPSIA, which is the REQUIRED LABELING for the regulated products (products being affected by CPSIA, which is ALL products for children under 12 YO plus many more, but given the DS forum audience, I will not go into those) and also the GCC (General Compliance Certificate) which needs to be issued and included with EVERY product shipment (applies to producer or supplier of the product).

Here is for instance WHAT GCC must list:

Identification of the product covered by the certificate
Specification of each CPSC product safety regulation being certified
Identification of the foreign or domestic manufacturer certifying compliance of the product.
Identification of the U.S. Importer certifying compliance of the product (if any)
Identification of private labeler certifying compliance of the product (if any)
Contact information for the individual maintaining the test results
Date and place where this product was manufactured
Date and place where this product was tested for compliance with the regulations cited above.
Identification of of any third-party laboratory on whose testing the certificate depends.

Here is the SAMPLE of GCC with FAQ
http://www.cpsc.gov/about/cpsia/faq/elecertfaq.pdf

There is a LOT of useful information posted on Fashion Incubator http://www.fashion-incubator.com/arc...-requirements/

CPSC is also now accepting COMMENTS or feedback about how this law (CPSIA) will affect YOU (producer, reseller, private labeler etc.)
http://www.cpsc.gov/about/cpsia/Comp...tsComments.pdf

Hope this helps a bit!

Gabby
