Yellow split peas?

I was thinking of making a split pea soup, but after looking through my cabinet, I see dried yellow split peas. My DH bought them thinking they were lentils. Can I use these?

Re: Yellow split peas?

I bet it would be great. Yellow split peas are nice and mild.

Here's my fave recipe using them, btw: Kik Alitcha – Ethiopian yellow split pea dish.

Curried split pea soup (more like a chowder, actually) is best with yellow splits and is a nice change from the usual ham-flavored soup.
