Raw honey

Anyone ever tried it? I bought a jar at the store yesterday, and man it's like nothing I've ever tasted! But, when I eat it, my mouth and lips itch!

Re: Raw honey

We only do raw honey around here. Too many important nutrients get lots when honey is pasteurized. Something to check out...although honey may be a labeled as raw, it may still be heated (killing nutrients). If possible, check to see if your honey is truly raw/unheated as that is truly the best stuff.

I only buy raw honey also, and I'm not a crunchy sort of gal.

I love it with greek yogurt, yum!

Actually, I think I'll go downstairs and get some now.

Yup mama, this is unheated and unstrained...I think the brand is Really Raw Honey? I wonder if that's why I reacted to it? I gave it to my Mom, maybe she can eat it

Re: Raw honey

Being that honey is healing, it could have been an allergy that was detoxing from your mouth, I don't think that would be a reason to stop eating honey, but a reason to check if you're eating something that you're allergic too, or that something is trying to detox it's way out of you and the honey brought the issue to a physical sensation for you.

Re: Raw honey

Chances are it's something simpler...

how the honey is de-combed and how the bees are treated (smoking vs chemicals) affects it. Some people are sensitive to that and some are not.

I'd suggest finding a raw source you can ask specifics of to find out those procedures. hot-knife or centrifuge are the best methdods of extraction and smoking is much better than the chemical method in terms of "honey burn".

If you live in an agricultural area there will often be local sources you can contact.

I'm not sure where Telford is in terms of location but if you're close enough to the Bootheel of Missouri there's some good raw honey producers in that area.
