Re: Splenda??
I tried Stevia about 6 years ago and hated it; I go through a huge box of Splenda each month now (the 1000ct packets). I know it's not the healthiest, but I cut out aspartame/chocolate/high fructose corn syrup/soda/most junk food over a year ago and I refuse to let go of my coffee. Are there any other sweetener options? What is this Agave nectar you speak of? Is it expensive? $20 a month on Splenda is already pretty high, I wish I didn't like my coffee so sweet! I use sugar "in the raw" or similar for baking but I can't in my coffee as I'm pre-diabetic.

Re: Splenda??
What does Stevia taste like besides sweet? Does it have flavor to it?

Re: Splenda??
I also use splenda in my coffee. If I'm baking or cooking, I go ahead and use regular sugar, otherwise it's just not as good or as tempting and isn't that the point of having sweeties in the house?

![]() It does take a while to get used to the taste though IMO and definately doesn't equal the same amount of sugar but is much stronger, again, just my opinion. I love it though Other than an occaisional spoon of honey in my tea, Splenda is all I use!

Re: Splenda??
I hate splenda...it's not natural, and I'd rather use sugar over splenda anyday. Here's some linkys: http://tinyurl.com/7swl3(mercola website with tons of splenda info...) http://www.truthaboutsplenda.com/fac...ion/index.html and this one, which is from the EPA about pollutants put into the environment from the plant which manufactures splenda: http://www.truthaboutsplenda.com/images/EPA1.pdf
I've used Stevia, and frankly I hate the stuff, it has a funny aftertaste to me , so I use regular sugar, or brown sugar, or sugar in the raw.

Re: Splenda??
I can't stand the way Splenda tastes either. I have to watch my sugar intake b/c I am borderline gestational diabetic (I really don't want to deal with the full blown) so I just drink water now and go real easy on the sweets. I need to do some more research, but Xyletol is supposed to be a good substitute for sugar. It is in fact natural, (like fructose, ect) but I'm sure it's not low in calories the way Splenda works. It's just a better option than straight sugar, plus it's granulated. My son's dentist recommeneded children's toothpast made with Xyletol b/c it's supposed to be better for your teeth.
My thing is, Splenda isn't processed by your body normally...it spits it out the way it spits out Olestra. (it goes straight through you) Olestra is known to take vitamins, nutrients from your immune system with it when it comes out with your stool so I would only assume Splenda would act the same way. That makes me nervous. I'd rather eat less sugar ( one or two lactation cookie is probably your extra nursing calories for the day anyway, so just eat like normal besides) and not risk putting that nasty stuff inside me. Just my opinion though... Good luck in your search! |

Re: Splenda??
i think its disgusting, and refuse to eat it, my dad has health problems and kept trying to force it in me and sneak it, and soy products in me instead of meat and i ended up mostly eating at my grandmas because i didnt trust it.. i REALLY dont trust this stuff at all, imo it tastes like sweet n low anyway. the only thing i will put near me with it in it is toothpaste/mouthwash, and thats it, period and thats only because i cant get anyone to let me buy any more expensive without it in it....
and as far as a couple of you saying this, or variations... Quote:
and thats one of the only thngs i remember from school as far as chemical make up goes, but of that im sure, at least LOL and im pretty sure its technically NaCl2 as well....

Re: Splenda??
oh ad yeah xylitol is supposed to be better for you than this other stuff but they still do stuff to it, though i dont remember what at the moment, ugh, wherte IS my brain? lol??
it supposedly helps you to not get cavities, which is why its i so much toothpaste and gum now, and ear infections, which im not sure believe, either but its better than sucralose any day. i havent trusted that stuff since i heard about it at all. ive never seen stevia in a normal store, we got it at a health vitamin place..we were using sugar i the raw when i just was with my mom but since theres more people here, we buy regular sugar since her stupid kids go thrugh so much of it, i refuse to spend that much money on someone elses kids who dont even like me, kwim? my my bought me and her stevia when we lived together in nc as well, i drank that in my pregnancy tea, and still do i tea now- well, or did until i got pregnant, LOL now i stay away from caffene as much as i can and havent had any...
