Re: "She'll be a delayed crawler/walker because her diaper is so big"...

Thanks you guys!!! All the encouraging comments really helped to ease my mind. My family is serious though, they aren't just running their mouths and trying to annoy me I'm sure Ava will be just fine though!! They also tell me about her hips - how her hips are going to be out of line since they are spread out by her bulky diaper.... Ugggg... Stupid....

Just for the record - they aren't *THAT* bulky!!

Like pp said, our grandparents, parents, many of us were CDed and we learned to crawl walk, etc. My DH was CDed and walked at 6 mo!

My DD was CDed and started taking steps at 10 mo and walked across the room at 12 mo which was later than my DS who wasn't CDed until 9 or 10 mo but that is when we started walking as well. So don't pay attention to them.

Also, like a few posters have said, once the baby gets bigger, the diapers won't seem as bulky. I don't have any GMs so I can't compare them to others but we use tons of other fitteds as well as prefolds, pockets, and AIOs with no issues with bulk. A few of the diapers are as trim as sposies.

Just ignore them!

DD was CD'ed from 10 weeks and was pulling up to a stand at 5 months and walking by 9. Don't let them fool you - babies do things at their own speed, regardless of a CD booty!

It's actually better for the development of their hips.

It just takes a little getting used to the look of it for people these days since we are so used to seeing babies in disposeable diapers.

our ped told me it was good for their hips developementally to have the "bulk" of the cloth keeping their legs apart. i'd never heard of that before.....but okay!

I'll take a little different approach to this conversation. My son has been CD'd at home since a month or so old, was at a daycare that wouldn't use the CD from about 5 mo - 16 mo (he's 18 mo now) so that was sposies for 11 mo during the day. He just learned how to walk w/in the last month. We had a PT at the house and she had him w/o his pants on so she knew he was in CD and mentioned nothing that it could have attributed to his slow walking. I'm sure if there was any truth to what your family was saying, the Phys. ther. would have said something to us.

DD crawled before we switched to sposies. She's walking with assistance since 10ish months. Nothing un-assisted yet, but it's cause she knows crawling is faster. LOL. I know she'll walk in time and her pedi wasn't worried.

She is a speed demon crawling.

Even if it were true, it doesn't hurt babies to crawl or walk a couple of months later. They will do it when they're ready!

I wouldn't worry about the hip development either. Babies' bodies aren't like adult bodies--they're much more flexible and you'll even notice them lay frog-legged on their own.

GL with your family!

You've gotta be kidding me! That is hilarious...apparently lots of other posters think your family is crazy too! I actually like CD's on DD because since she's starting to walk when she takes a fall she's got a little more cush on her bum!
