So, what is your 8 mo old up to? - update

So, my baby flunked her 6 mo well baby, in case anyone remembers. Now she is 8 months old, and still hasn't made her 6 mo milestones. She passed the 4 monthers, and she's made a couple little steps, like she can army crawl a bit, and maybe sit for a couple of seconds. But that's it. No babbling, no tri pod sitting or being able to sit without a lot of balancing on my part (and catching), no rocking on hands and knees, etc. She tends to drag her left leg also, and it's weaker than the right, so I'm thinking about calling EI. But, I want to get a snapshot of what other 8 mo olds are doing, so what is your 8 month old up to?

Mine can:
army crawl and eat paper off the floor
roll over at will
put herself to sleep
smile when she notices I'm taking her picture
turn her head to her name, or the other names the kids call her
not cry when her brother "holds her"
spit raspberries at her sister

What's yours up to?

Edit: I decided to get my kids' Pediatrician to take a look at her. It's time like these I wish dh was home to check her out, since I value his opinion so much (he's a Ped, and normally works in the same clinic as my kids' Ped when he isn't deployed). She said that the baby is definitely delayed, and she said she thinks she needs physical therapy since she is very stiff in her legs and back, especially her right leg, and she might refer her to cardio because she gets sweaty and a red blotchy face when nursing, plus her hands and feet turn purple often. She has no idea what could be wrong. She's going to talk to a developmental specialist, and she said in the meantime let's cross our fingers that something snaps into place and she starts in with the 9 mo old milestones soon. So that's the update. I'm still hoping that she is just being lazy. One thing is for sure, she's darn cute, and a real joy.

Sounds pretty normal to me DD3 is 7 months and cannot roll over but has been sitting unassisted for quite a while. She flat out refuses to lay on her tummy at all. She hums a little bit, smiles, laughs, can pass things from one hand to the other and is getting her 2 bottom teeth.

Mine is 9 months now but at 8 months he was:

*sitting up unassisted
*crawling on all 4's
*pulling up on things
*rolling over
*cruising
*babbling but no real words
*trying to climb onto the couch
*sticking his tounge out at people
*chases the animals

Re: So, what is your 8 mo old up to?

My 8.5 month old is:

Rolling both ways at will
Sitting up well & can catch himself when he starts to tip
Staying up on all fours when placed there - but not crawling, army or otherwise - very occasionally he'll rock back & forth a bit
Making sounds but not really babbling
Perfecting the pincher grasp
Able to stand while holding onto something for awhile (30 seconds or so?) before falling

He's not pulling up, crawling or cruising along furniture. No teeth yet, and not consistently sleeping through the night yet either - although he's done it twice in the last two weeks, so I'm hopeful! (Yawn!)

We've been a little behind on most of the milestones along the way, but then when he does them he does them almost perfectly. It's like he waits until he's sure he can do it right before trying!

You know your little one best, and you know all kiddos are different. Hard for us to say if your LO is in the normal range, but if you're worried, get it checked out!

Re: So, what is your 8 mo old up to?

My son just turned 8 months yesterday. He can:

• Sit well since 6 mos
• Babbles a lot
• Feeds himself with pincer grip and spoon
• Tries to drink from a cup (i.e. doesn't actually drink (LOL) but puts the cup in his mouth; he's BF so the cup is just for fun)
• stands holding on to couch/playpen if you set him there
• rolling front/back and back/front

He's not:
• even remotely crawling
• pulling up to stand
• sleeping for all that long
• no sign of teeth

He's following along the exact path his sis before him did.

Re: So, what is your 8 mo old up to?

My 9 month old (in 2 days):
sits up unassisted
rolls from back to front when he wants to
rolls from front to back sometimes
babbles and says a few words-dad, mama, sissa, yes (weird, I know), yeah
has 6 teeth
blows rasberries
makes kissing sound and gives open mouth kisses
uses pincer grasp to eat little bites of food
puts himself to sleep at naps and bedtime
throws full blown fits

He does not:
get on hands and knees, much less crawl
roll a lot
scoot around at all
sleep through the night, although I'd really like to work on that one
drink from a cup, unless I hold it for him
