Quick Nystatin questions help

I was prescribed this cream for suspected thrush. Do I wipe it off before I nurse the baby? Or is it okay to leave it on? Also, has anyone used this cream and had it work? I'm highly skeptical, since I needed diflucan to get rid of the last infection. We are not even sure if it is thrush, since my DD has no symptoms. I keep getting a nipple blister, so we are treating for thrush.

just from saying you have a nipple blister sounds like it might be a duct if it keeps comming back ... i dont think it would be safe to leave on .... call an LL leader and ask off their site it's free! just google it... I dont have it on hand but that is what I would do. Good luck mama!

I always wiped it off before I nursed, but honestly, it never worked. The Diflucan was the only thing that helped the thrush for me!

Nystatin contains sugar which feeds yeast, which is why it tends to not work a lot

Don't throw out the Nystatin though, TEagen always got yeast infections down below and that stuff works great down there!

I'm actually surprised that it seems to be helping. I'm not in as much pain as I was before. But I am also using probiotics, GSE (orally & topically), and I've restricted carbs and sugar to hardly anything. At least it helped me take some weight off, but I am missing bread something awful.

I would wipe it off before hand, especially if it is the cream. You don't want your little one to get that into his/her mouth. You could also try Lotrimin cream or Monistat cream (both available OTC) if the nystatin doesn't seem to be working.

You can nurse with the cream on. But, if you feel better, just wipe it off before. Just remember that Thrush is SLOW GROWING and SLOW DYING- so keep with it- I've treated Thrush for months- its a tough fungus to kill.
