<SPAN>bad constipation HELP! *update #19!*

i know this may sound dumb .. but have they looked at his sphincter (sp) muscle - my oldest had to have his stretched because he couldnt pass larger stools , once they stretched it hes never had anymore problems .

My daughter suffers from chroic constipation due to low muscle tone. She was on Miralax (over the counter) for a while. Then we discovered flax seed oil. It is a godsend for us and also a superfood. We mix a teaspoon a day into her food and she is NEVER constipated anymore.

Probiotics helped my DS when he was constipated.

I second the Flax, although I haven't used it, I've known many people who have.

That poor lil guy My 2 1/2 yr old has the same issues. We use a half capful on Miralax every day and it seems to help. He still associated pooping w/pain though

With the suppository, you need to hold your finger over his anus to keep it in. I think with all children that would be necessary or else they'll immediately expel it b/c it doesn't belong in there. If he screams in pain when you do it, STOP! He could have anal fissures/hemmoroids/or something else that the glycerin suppository burns. I found that out after child birth, it brought me to tears.

I personally would keep doing Miralax daily (you really have to play with the dose). I'd start with 1/4 cap twice a day and see if that helps. I'd also call the dr. and see if he had any problems with you using Fleet Child Enema's to clean LO out. As long as your Ped has no problems with it, put an old towel (or something soft that you don't mind throwing away) on the bottom of the tub, place LO on it w/a bottle or something else to keep him occupied. Give the enema and watch out! It will not hurt him, but will most likely being kind of uncomfortable. Once he's cleaned out, clean him up and do whatever you'd normally do to calm him.

Starting from scratch I think is best for the stool softener to do it's job.

i should have mentioned that i do that flax seed as well, my mother is a health nut and i make smoothies for my kids and use it, that was the first thing my mom mentioned to try with him.

yeah that's what the dr started him on at first and is still on it. but it hasn't helped at all. my older son that i gave up for adoption had this same problem and his mom said they battled with it for a year, i'm thinking it's in the genes. but she also said that mirilax didn't work, don't know why bc it seems to work for everyone else.

i don't know what that is, but the dr was poking around his but with an instrument, i think to see if his muscles react, if that's what they do, then she said it was fine, but i'll ask the specialist tomorow. bc that would make lots of sense.

awe, your poor boy, i think Linc is also scared bc it's an automatic freak out when he has to go. now he is able to go, with screaming and me holding his legs to his chest, but i think i know what the problem is, well, not exactly the problem or why but this is my conclusion:
he can go. the stool is soft when it comes out, formed but soft enough to pass, but his body is not turning it into a cylinder, rather keeps it balled up by his butt. so when he has to go, i have to squeeze his butt together to squish it to get it out. as gross as it sounds, that's the only way it'll come out. so now my issue is, WHY WON'T HIS BODY CHANGE IT'S FORM? does that make sense the way i worded it? he's been going every day it just gets stuck, now that muscle thing mentioned above could make more sense. does that make sense? gaaah it's so frustrating to hear him scream thank you all for your help!!!!

My daughter has had problems with constipation since she was 12 mos. old. The doctor put her on a daily dose of Milk of Magnesia. I don't know how that compares to Mirilax, but she was on it for 1 1/2 years and it's the only thing that worked. I think she is lactose intolerant because as soon as she started to drink more milk again (at 3 yrs. old she stopped drinking much milk and then around 4 yrs. old she started to drink more milk) she became constipated again. Ever since I have put her on lactose free milk she hardly has any problems at all.
It's good that you are going to a specialist. It sounds like he needs to be seen. I just don't know what you could do to get that constipation relieved. Poor little guy. I would just keep trying that suppository. Maybe see if you could get it to the side of the blockage. The oils in the suppository would help the blockage slide out. Have you called the doctor recently and told him that it won't come out and it blocks any chance of a suppository?

yeah i'll ask the specialist today about milk of magnesia, there just has to be something we can do, ya know? i can't just call our normal ped and talk to them, we are military so we have to be seen at our hospital on base, but it took her a week to call back with the xray results after i called and left her mssages. GAAAAAAH! thank you, i'll let you all know how he's doing after the appt today!

ok, so the specialist said that really what the problem is, is that Linc is scared to go bc of being constipated etc. he checked him out and he's still full. so we have to do a half enema every 12 hours for 4 times. we go back in a month to see him. we did one enema so far and he went but it wasn't as messy as everyone has told me it was one diaper and not even that much. i hope that doesn't mean that it's not going to help. but anyways, it doesn't look like anything is WRONG wrong with him so thank god! i just wanted to update you all. thank you so much!!!
