I want to make some soups and /or desserts in a jar for small Christmas presents for neighbors, etc. Please post your favorite (ones that you have used or tasted). Thanks!

Re: Gifts in a jar

I just made up a "sample" of some butterscotch chip cookies in a jar that I hope to make for gifts but I wanted to try it first. I plan on baking them tonight or tomorrow but wanted to reply to the thread so I could find it again when I come back with the taste test I'll keep you posted

Re: Gifts in a jar

I got a book at the thrift store this summer and it has recipes with the cards that go on the jars as gifts. you might try looking for this book online for Gifts in a Jar. My book is called Gifts from a Jar muffins, breads & scones. Happy cooking and making the Gift Jars. I know i will try and make some this year also.

Re: Gifts in a jar

We did some layered mixes a few years ago but I can't remember what we did! We've also done this chai mix (from All Recipes) that always goes over really well in a pretty jar or container:

Chai Tea Mix
Instant Chai tea mix. You can spice it up even further by
adding 1 teaspoon nutmeg and allspice, and 1/4 teaspoon white
pepper. Prep Time: approx. 30 Minutes. Cook Time: approx. 2
Minutes. Ready in: approx. 32 Minutes. Makes 36 servings.
Printed from Allrecipes, Submitted by Jo
1 cup nonfat dry milk powder
1 cup powdered non-dairy creamer
1 cup French vanilla flavored
powdered non-dairy creamer
2 1/2 cups white sugar
1 1/2 cups unsweetened
instant tea
2 teaspoons ground ginger
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground cloves
1 teaspoon ground cardamom
OPTIONAL:
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp allspice
tsp white pepper

Directions
1 In a large bowl, combine milk powder, non-dairy
creamer, vanilla flavored creamer, sugar and instant tea. Stir
in ginger, cinnamon, cloves and cardamom. In a blender or
food processor, blend 1 cup at a time, until mixture is the
consistency of fine powder.
2 To serve: Stir 2 heaping tablespoons Chai tea mixture
into a mug of hot water.

Note:
You may choose to omit the French vanilla creamer, and use
2 teaspoons vanilla extract instead. To do so, mix the
vanilla into the sugar, let it dry, then break the sugar into
small lumps. Follow the same procedure as above.

We've also done hot cocoa:
Cocoa Mix in a Jar
2 C. instant nonfat dry milk powder
2 C. miniature marshmallows
1 1/2 C. powdered sugar
1 C. nondairy creamer
3/4 C. mini semi-sweet chocolate morsels
1/2 C. cocoa

Sift all ingredients together in a bowl. This will blend the ingredients together evenly.

You can do this in individual servings by wrapping in plastic wrap. Wrap 1/3 Cup of cocoa mix and tie with a bow.

Or use a quart jar and include a recipe card to use 1/3 C. of Cocoa Mix per serving to 1 C. hot boiling water.

You can also add enough servings for 4 people to a baggie and attach the bag toppers.

Makes 13 servings.
