Re: LOs weaning during pregnancy

I've been pregnant twice while still nursing the previous baby, and planned to tandem both times. Didn't work out for me, though ... but not solely because of the pregnancy.

One weaned after 20 weeks (think we made it to 6 months or so), but not because of pregnancy. My milk was fine, but her ped. was unnecessarily concerned about her weight and forced Pediasure on her, and she self-weaned because of it. I stopped the supplementing and tried to get her BFing again but she wouldn't have it. She was nearly a year old.

The other also self-weaned around a year old, this time I was less than 20 weeks along with #4. No real reason. It was just time for her I think (unfortunately).

Our 1st nursed until she was about 2, however, and the baby is still going strong at nearly a year old -- I'd been worried, given the last two unexpected weanings. She still nurses 6 times a day minimum, though ... often quite a few more. No letting up in sight!

I nursed my oldest all the way through my second pregnancy. I weaned her when the baby came.

When pregnant with Eliah, my older daughter was still nursing.

I think she finally stopped on her own when I was about 3 months from having the baby, so I was more like 28 weeks along at that point. So, Gemma was 17 months old when she weaned.

DD was 3.5 when I was pregnant with DS and she dry nursed for the first trimester which was one of the most uncomfortable experiences. She weaned shortly after my 1st tri ended.

Re: LOs weaning during pregnancy

Nope. I think she's freshly weaned now, though I don't think she realizes it. I'm sad.

We just changed the bedtime routine because there were a couple of nights where I *had* to be able to put both kids to bed on my own, so I couldn't set down Kate to nurse Caroline.. so we all cuddled in bed. And she went to sleep without nursing.. has for maybe 2 or 3 weeks now. She still really loved to nurse, too, but the new baby sister has been distracting, I guess..

My son weaned at 20 months......I was 17 weeks PG and I think we weaned b/c he was just ready....we were only nursing 1x day so w/ that and being PG my milk started to dry up and just stopped one day and never asked for it again. It was bitter-sweet but now I have a new LO who loves to BF!

When DD was 12 mos she cut back on nursing and I dried up and I was only 3 mos preg.

It was fine and really easy until she was sick about a week after she quit and wanted to comfort nurse. She was POed.

Re: LOs weaning during pregnancy

With my second pregnancy I nursed without any problems until I weaned him because of lack of information. His ped. told me I had to wean him about 6 weeks before the new baby came so I could get new milk for the new baby.

Now I know better.

I'm 11 weeks and planning to continue nursing through the pregnancy. I hope my milk stays strong, so far so good.

Reading Adventures In Tandem Nursing freaked me out because she makes it seem like most people lose their milk.
