Re: Anyone do a triple screen?

Too big a chance of a false positive and wouldn't have changed anything anyway.

Re: Anyone do a triple screen?

I don't remember which one I had but I did opt for a screen test. Her kidneys were measuring big and it was just another blood test. It wouldn't have changed anything but it would have helped us prepare if there was possibly something there.

Thats why I've done it with both of my kids. I wouldn't abort, but I want to be prepared for anything I CAN be prepared for. If a baby has special needs, I want all the resources I can get to be prepared to give that baby my all

Re: Anyone do a triple screen?

Nope. Huge rate of false positives which could lead to more unnecessary screening tests.

Re: Anyone do a triple screen?

I declined all 3 times..I would never abort, so really the only thing we would benefit from it is preparedness...and I didn't want to worry my pregnancy away if there was really nothing to worry about. Too much of a high rate of false positives that I didn't feel it was needed...

Re: Anyone do a triple screen?

I declined it with my first son, but after we found I had excess amniotic fluid, they really suggested having it done, to check for abnormalities, so we did, and he's perfectly healthy.
I declined in this pregnancy because I'm not in a high risk category and I wouldn't terminate even if we did get positive results.

Re: Anyone do a triple screen?

I declined it with both of mine, mostly because I didn't want any unnecessary worry, and I don't fall into any risk categories. I also knew that it was a good chance that my ultrasound at 18 weeks would pick up many types of abnormalities as well, if there were any. And it wouldn't have changed my decision to carry the baby to term. Although, it is something my husband and I discussed because if something was wrong, he would want to be prepared. Which I understood that, but ultimately we decided not to do it. I also declined the CF test, that one I really don't get unless you have family history of it.

Re: Anyone do a triple screen?

My ob has told me before that it is I believe 60-70% false positive rate. You can choose to do the 13 week ultrasound one that checks for it instead of the blood test.

Re: Anyone do a triple screen?

We opted not to do the screening because we planned on carrying the baby to term no matter what. Any large anomaly would most likely have shown on a 20 week ultrasound so we would be prepared. We know 2 families that had false positives that caused them great stress only to have perfectly healthy babies. I don't know what the actual false positive rate is but I'd say by us knowing 2 families in 3 years it is probably higher than 2%.
