What are these metal things for?? Oven & pics

I have these two metal things in my oven and I have no clue what these are for?? First I thought these are covers for the heating element...but they are too small.




They fit perfectly into each other and on the right hand, there are two holes...for what??

They are for broiling. I tend to use them for broiling sausage. I put foil on top of the slitted piece and put it in the holder. Then I put the sausage on it. Put it on Broil and let it cook for about 15 mins. I do not know of any other uses for it.

Sorry, in Germany ovens do not have such a thing....

Yep. Those are broiler pans. The perforated part sits on top of the other one so, if you're broiling meat, the grease will drip through the grate and be caught by the bottom half. They are meant to sit right on the oven rack.....there isn't any special bracket to hold them or anything. You just move the oven rack up close to the broiler element (at the top of most ovens) and then slide your broiler pans and food on top of the rack.

The oven manufacturers include broiler pans with most ovens because they are heavy-duty metal/enamel and safe to use with the high heat of the broiler. Most ordinary baking pans warp if you put them under the broiler. And non-stick pans can give off deadly fumes, so you want to avoid those especially.

aha.....and you put the meat (what meat??) directly on the perforated part?? Like grilling??

You could, but they're meant to catch drips from a dish above. Usually there's at least 2 racks, that device sits on the bottom rack with your dish on the next rack up. I use them for catching drippings from pies and such. Keeps the oven from getting burnt-on food on the floor.

This is so wierd, I posted the exact same thing a while back. It's a broiling pan and the bottom thing is to catch the drippings. I have the exact same one although the pics are gone in my thread, funny!
