Re: Help me be objective w/ these two midwife choices.

I have questions.

Does person A have a back up helper?

Was B's price before or after the discount and insurance?
What does B do if two women are in labor at once?

I'm leaning toward #2, but pp made a really good point about more experience = better midwife.
You'll have to make the choice that is best for your family, GL!!

Re: Help me be objective w/ these two midwife choices.

If it were me, I'd go with #1.

It sounds from your descriptions that the cost is the main reason you would consider #2 instead (and I may be reading that completely wrong, but it's just my take on it). If your personalities don't mesh as well, if she happens to have another birth when you go into labor (more likely with #2 than #1, obviously), and experience to deal with whatever may come during a homebirth....to me, that can greatly affect how I feel about the birth and the whole pre-natal experience. I'll remember that feeling and carry it with me (positive or negative) much longer than I'll remember how much I had to pay at the time.

and good luck with your decision.

Re: Help me be objective w/ these two midwife choices.

I would ask both ladies what they do if they have 2 mamas in labor at one time.

SIL's midwife missed the birth of their DD so that would be a big concern for me!!

I also like it when midwives come out to your house. I personally would become more comfortable with her if I get to know her on "my ground" KWIM? Plus, it saves you the hassle of driving to her office and then getting there to find out that she is out a birth. 30 minutes drive might not seem that big of a deal now, but what about when you are 8 months pregnant and have to take DD1 with you and all you want to do is take a nap? I am all for people catering to pregnant mamas. Just my

I know it is your second bab so you might not get a baby shower, but if people asked you if you wanted anything you could say "We really want to have a midwife so gifts for that would be appreciated"

I would go with B because when I am in labor the last thing I want is bubbly. Plus, I would feel better that my insurance was involved.

Re: Help me be objective w/ these two midwife choices. - Update in 27: I've chosen!

Originally, I was leaning towards B, partly b/c of money issues, but some of you brought up some excellent points and I've decided to go w/ midwife A.
