Re: a basic weekend... chat and share a recipe????

Oh, and re: V-day, probably nothing. We haven't done anything in the past; I can't imagine we'll start this year.

Re: a basic weekend... chat and share a recipe????

hope your LO feels better soon Becky

Great job on the decluttering Sara

I think I might make fondue for V-day...we made it for New Years Eve and it was sooo good!

for my cheese fondue I used cheddar but you can use whatever you like/want/have...

Here's the recipe:
1 lb. cheddar
about 2 tbsp flour
stick butter (about 1/2)
milk

I don't have a cheese grater or a fondue pot/double boiler so I made my own using 2 small sauce pots....boil water in the bottom pot, make cheese sauce in the top pot!

I "shredded" the cheese using a potato peeler you could cut it in chunks or even start with shredded cheese...we already had a block of it at home...

use the flour and butter in top pot directly on the burner, (not over second pot) while bottom pot is boiling water, to make a rue, add a little milk and wisk out the lumps, add more milk and boil to thicken, add cheese til it melt, stir regularly

for dippers we used:
cubed, cooked boneless skinless chicken breast
cube and cooked steak
grape/cherry tomatoes
Italian bread, baked til crisp and cubed

We also got stuff to make a chocolate fondue but ate the dippers w/o the chocolate another day...

it was a bag of chocolate chip morsels..add milk to thin a bit
dippers were
Strawberries
grapes
melon
crisp italian bread cubes or you could use a sweeter bread like cubed crossiants...

OH and my mom said that I should share her tomato pie recipe with you ladies if anyone wants it?

How soon? I will be 39 in June. I thought Mamazluv and I were the oldest!

I am lazy today. We went grocery shopping, out to lunch for MIL's bday, and then everything just sort of stalled. We are all just so tired. I should really be catching up on the daddy diapers, even if it's just cutting things out, but I'm just not feeling it!

Melissa, I missed the 10 lb baby post earlier. Holy cow, you don't look very big to be producing such large babies! They are both beautiful. I thought my 8+ lbers were some feat, but I am an amazon so really that's not big when you consider my size.

Re: a basic weekend... chat and share a recipe????

So... I have a student visiting. He has been here since 1. It is now 3:45. I told him he could visit... he has some issues at home. His dad is a single father, and a pastor at the church here. He gets sent all around the Y-K Delta to work with different churches, and it's really hard on his kids. So I let his son come over and play PS2 with DH and romp with the dog for a few hours on Saturdays. He's also a... gentle boy, in a village full of tough guys. We don't really even need to entertain him; he just likes to hang out.

I just wish his dad would say something to the church about not wanting to travel so much. He finds it hard to refuse because he's "doing God's work," and I think what he's missing is that raising his son and daughter is also "God's work."
