I agree with a LOT of what tollers29 said!

Redirect is SO useful! DD is 18 months old and will now hit when she doesn't get her way! So, I usually will hold her hand and say "OUCH, that hurt mommy, I dont like it when you hit mommy!" I also do not allow any one to hit in our home, so when we have play dates (because the moms and I are so close) I will usually do simular reactions with her friends when they hit! So that she understands that hitting is not okay no matter WHO is doing it!

When DD would flail her arms at us when we picked her up, we just grabbed her arm and said sharply "No!" That seemed to work. She was old enough to understand what we were saying.
