That's why I like it! I'm a red-head, and it was a name consideration (for me anyway) when I was pregnant with my daughter before we knew the sex. Hubby doesn't like it for a boy because he says it sounds too girlish, so that's why I was curious if anyone thought of it as a girls' name =)

My understanding was that traditionally Rowen was a girls name and Rowan was a boys name... but I'm a little biased as my younger daughter is Rohan, which is absolutely a boy's spelling. (And we pronounce it closer to Rowen than Ro-han, the Indian way).

I always think of a Boy. Rowan Atkinson aka Mr Bean, Black Adder and a host of other roles.

For some reason, I think it's girly when spelled 'Rowan' and boyish when spelled Rowen. I like it for either.
