I think my baby may have weaned

Let me first say my "baby" is 38months old. But he is my youngest and most likely my last bio-baby. We plan to adopt in the future, but it will most likely be foster/adopt so no bfing. He had cut way down in the last 6 months or so. He was only nursing at night before bed, and sometimes in the morning he would ask. But he would miss some nights and sometimes go a couple days without "neesurs". But we changed up his bedtime routine recently, I didn't think he was getting enough sleep so I started putting him down earlier. Now it's been almost a week and he hasn't asked for his "neesurs". He asks for a story before bed and then goes to sleep. I thought I would be happy about this, or at least relieved. I didn't really mind nursing him, it didn't bother me that he was 3 and still nursing or anything, but I was getting tired too. But now I just feel kind of sad about it. I thought about offering him neesurs just to see if he wanted it, but then I decided that if he wants it he needs to ask. He really is old enough to wean, and I am ready for him to, but I will miss it. It's so sad knowing he is so grown up now. He's really not a baby any more. And I will probably never breast feed another baby again.

Re: I think my baby may have weaned

I hope this is my story in 24 months . My daughter is 12 months and I plan to let her self-wean. I know you are feeling nostalgic, and it sounds like you know this was your plan (self-weaning). Just want you to know that it is because of women like you that I have learned so much about BF - I would have never thought of extended BF without reading other experiences.
Thanks

Re: I think my baby may have weaned

THank you. It's been almost 2weeks now and I think it's official. He hasn't even so much as hinted at wanting to nurse. He used to bring his lovie out with him in the morning and say "mommy Doxie knows I want neesurs" as his way of "hinting" that he wanted to nurse. But Doxie has been quiet except for a few requests for "waffles like Kerny has". I'm excited for him, taking another big step towards independence. I will miss nursing, but I'm glad we could nurse so successfully for so long, and eventually child led wean. I have alot of wonderful memories to look back on.
