Help me replace my freezer bags
I want to go greener in my freezer. What can I use to freeze and store meat and poultry? I've tried a couple brands of reusable plastic containers, but they tend to crack and/or open after an extended time in the freezer. I love the versatility and size of freezer bags. What can I use instead?

Re: Help me replace my freezer bags
I'm probably of no help! =) I like our plastic containers. We use snapware and sterilite containers. The Snapware Company was really good about sending me a new lid when one was broke. I have about 30 pieces and one just came broken. I have used them for a couple months and they really seem to hold up well. I got them at Target and a big set at Costco. We have glass Anchor containers but the lids don't even come close to sealing. They just pop right off. Good luck!

Re: Help me replace my freezer bags
I haven't tried Pyrex for storage containers- they might be completely different. Maybe someone else can chime in with info about Pyrex...

Re: Help me replace my freezer bags
I wish I had a solution. It seems to me they must have had SOMETHING before plastic, but I don't think they did... Even freezer paper is coated with something synthetic.
I've thought and thought and thought about this, but have NO solution. Sigh. We just order 1/2 of a cow and it's all going to come wrapped in - plastic. I don't know of a solution short of canning and drying meat instead of freezing.

Re: Help me replace my freezer bags
Ok. We use pyrex almost exclusively for ALL our storage needs. Fridge, Freezer, Pantry.
I absolutely love them. I buy them at Costco typically and there IS A DIFFERENCE is the types of pyrex. Some seal, some really do just pop off. Heres what I have found....Anything that is "Bake & Store" pops off. They are great for casseroles that you need to cover and eat the next day, or we use them for grated cheese, holding marinating turkey, etc. We do not ever use these for freezing. This is a picture of the different lids. The bottom one is the bake & store pyrex - notice the SHAPE differences around the edges. ![]() The best sealing ones are the "Pyrex storage plus". These things ROCK! They come in square, rectangle and circle containers ranging from tiny to about 4 qt sizes. This is a picture AND a video of the "seal". If you listen closely you should be able to hear the seal break and air movement. ![]() note - that video is taken of a container that is about 2 1/2 years old. I have noticed that my lids are a little less air tight, but they are constantly used and hopefully this will help someone who's reading this

Re: Help me replace my freezer bags
Thanks mama. I have the Bake and Store, and was wondering how anybody could effectively freeze anything in pyrex. But that makes sense. I'll start shopping for deals on Storage Plus.
