Re: Hospital rant!

Even though he isn't really in the picture the baby's father in not Circ'd, so she decided not to so that in the event he decides to be a decent human being and step up to the plate little Keegan will look just like his daddy

Re: Hospital rant!

i can understand the LC. Here we don't have a LC. We have a public health nurse who took a correspondance course in breastfeeding. She is only available 3 days a week for 1/2 a day becuase her full time job is in public health.

The nurses here do NOT have time to showing a mom how to nurse, finding a pump, etc. They are understaffed & during the nights(5pm-7am) they are in charge of surgery patients too. Yes surgery patients go to maternity.

When I had my youngest dd they had to call nurses in who were off duty & take nurses from ER to cover as there were too many moms in the hopsital(seriously every bassinet was full, even the ones typically in storeage), there were 2 babies in trouble & they needed staff.

Not every hospital can have all the staff people would like on duty at all times.

That being said I'm going to go pass out in shock over defending our maternity nurses, I don't like them.lol

Good for you for speaking up for her. I hope she is able to get help with the BF'ing. And congrats to her on such an adorable little boy!

Re: Hospital rant!

I got the lady's number from the local LLL and I want to call but I don't want to step on her toes ya know. I want to be helpful but not pushy. How would you approach the LLL thing. Should I call or just give her the number and let her decide?

I think either would be fine. If she has a cell phone and you are already txt-ing her I wouldn't hesitate to send the number to her and ask if she'd like you to call so she can rest or something.

Re: Hospital rant! *question added in last post*

Wow that is shocking! All of my children (minus the one that was a miscarriage and the 5 I haven't had yet) have been in the NICU and I knew the story every step of the way! And as far as lactation with my son (pictured left) the lactation person was there the day I had him (granted because of my prior 3 the lactation consultant knew me by name and came to see me).

Is she at a smaller hospital? I have only given birth in a hospital in a major city and it wasn't that small (though it is often mistaken for another hospital ).

Not really. It is a pretty decent sized city. Though its not the best city and maybe alot of people don't bf so maybe they aren't taking her seriously I dunno *shrugs*

Am I nuts?

I then got a call from Kelly (my bf) to tell me her breast pump was on its way
I was like "Oh really! That's awesome its about time!"
if only we all had good advocates
or better yet, supportive and knowledgeable staff
