Constant menstrual type cramps before labor?

Has anyone experienced constant menstrual type cramps right before labor starts? For the last 3 hours or so I've had constant cramps. I am 38 weeks today, 1cm dilated and 75% effaced as of my appointment this afternoon with my midwife.

Just curious if any of you been there done that Mommas has experienced this right before your labor started!

What was your last labor like mama? I always had cramping after an internal.

But then again...the cramping you feel may mean you are in labor now

My last labor, I don't remember having these cramps beforehand. I had the cramps about an hour before my appointment. I told her I had them, she said it may be a sign of things to come but did not know for sure.

With my last, I had mentrual type cramps for about 3 hours, then BAM! was on the floor. She was born 1 hour 20 minutes later. I had had the cramps 2 times before in the previous weeks and each time I had dialated more.

Late lastnight they finally stopped but not before getting even more uncomfortable. I'll be keeping a close eye on this.

with my ds, thats actually how I would describe my contractions "menstrual cramps"! You could be having contractions!

After the 5th month with my daughter I had zero cramps until I went unto labor. Now with my son, I had contractions every day almost from 30 weeks until my scheduled c-section at 39 weeks 2 days. At 30 weeks they did give me a muscle relaxer to ease them but the contractions weren't causing changes in my cervix so they weren't too worried. I think it was just his position and the fact that he was 9 lbs 4 oz, and my placenta was 5 lbs...so alot of baby related stuff jammed in there LOL

I wouldn't describe my contracts as menstrual cramps, for me they were like diarrhea cramps LOL

I had menstrual type cramps the entire day before I went into labour with ds. They weren't super bad, just mild cramping.

The early part of my very short (4.5hr) labor felt like menstrual cramps. It felt that way up until my water broke.
