Priority Mail Package in Mailbox?

Can I leave a 2-lb. priority mail package in my mailbox with my outgoing mail for my mailman to pick up? Or do I actually have to go to the post office and walk it in and hand it to them at the counter?

TIA!

Re: Priority Mail Package in Mailbox?

wow! you're not supposed to leave anything weighing more than 13 oz for pick-up (unless you schedule a pick-up) - and I've never tried.

My neighbor schedules pick-ups (and our regular mailman just picks it up when he's doing regular mail delivery).

I always walk it into the PO. I don't wait in line, just go right to the counter, say "can I just leave this here?", they nod yes, and I do! I used to wait in line and they always said "you don't need to wait in line, just walk it up and drop it off."

Only true with stamped postage, not printed from pp. Can even go in the mailbox.

Yes, I leave heavier priority out for my mailman frequently.

I always leave packages out there. Even if they don't fit in the mailbox I have hung them in a grocery bag hanging over the mailbox and my mailman willcomeand get it.

Re: Priority Mail Package in Mailbox?

I would be terrified to leave something - fittin in the box or not. BUT in my defense, I live between two schools and about 300 kids walk right past my mailbox twice a day. Seriously. I KNOW at least one of them has been dared to steal someone's mail - its just how kids work. My mail lady had complaints so she stopped delivering on my street until after 5. Activities end at 4:30 at the two schools - she thought this through lol
Oh those two schools are within 2 blocks of my house, another is 3-4 blocks away - almost forgot about it.
