Danger of Vicks VapoRub

I generally don't use anything like this. Elijah has been having a really hard time, so I wanted to give it a shot to try and help. His heart was thumping - he was having to work SO hard to breathe.

I'll know better next time.

Re: Danger of Vicks VapoRub

I just read in Dr. Gott's colum the dangers of Vicks. I would not use a product like this anyway, but its side effects were definitely scary (e.g. liver failure).

ETA: I didn't realize that happened to your LO. That must have been scary.

normal vicks isnt suppose to be used on children under three, it doesnt say anything about vicks babyrub, which is reccomended for 3mnths and up, and it also points out that it isnt suppose to be placed under the nose, only use as dirrected.

Good to know! Did you read the comments where several people suggested using Vicks rubbed on feet & covered w/socks to help soothe cough? I wonder if that really does work??

Did you use the regular Vicks or Baby Vicks? Poor little baby, how is he now?

Agreed. I've used it on my feet for a bad cough, it works for me.

I've done this as well. Fortunately dd still hasn't been sick yet - don't know how we've escaped it.

We do use the Baby version - we put it on his chest and back. NOT his face.
I've put it on my feet - kept me warm.
He was not coughing - I was trying to open his airways.
He's better now. I think he may have a milk allergy, so we are currently staying away from it - VERY hard - since he loves cottage cheese.
