Re: Danger of Vicks VapoRub

I use it on my ds's feet when he has a cough and combined with a humidifier on full blast it works great. I would not put it anywhere else though.

Personally I think it's the eucalyptus oil that's the trigger for some of the respatory issues being discussed. I know EO is one of my asthma triggers--I grew up near a bunch of eucalyptus trees (some guy planted a TON.. only to find you can't burn it as fire wood) and would go into asthmatic fits if I went near them.

If you follow the directions - don't put it under the nose, don't use adult stuff on young children - it's not bad. If I can find baby rub, I'll use a small amount on DD's chest when she's stuffy, if I can't find the baby stuff, I'll use a small amount of the adult stuff on her feet under socks or footie PJs. She's prone to a stuffy nose, and it works wonders.

Did you use the regular Vicks or Baby Vicks? Poor little baby, how is he now?
I used to slather the Baby Vicks on DS's feet when he was little and cover 'em up with socks.

It def helped!

Re: Danger of Vicks VapoRub

I've always put Vicks under my nose that's how my Mom did it to me. I've tried just putting Vicks on my chest a few times but the effectiveness wasn't all that great. I prefer it under my nose. I can see where it might be dangerous for children though.

It's OK, next time I'll make you listen. I wish that it were in the power of all children to say that to their parents and to know that indeed they would be heard as we were in those wonderful days on Waltons Mountain.Narrator The Waltons (From the Runaway in Season 3 Eposide 4.)

The part that causes liver issues is the menthol, which might also cause the respiratory issues (but that I dont know, I just know about the liver issue). Baby Vicks doesnt have the Menthol, its Eucalyptus, Lavender and Rosemary Oils.
