Re: WWYD re: full body hives
Is she sick? Runny nose, sore throat, cough?? Soem viruses manifest themselves this way. THe virus themselves is causing the body to go into hyperdrive, causing an allergic reaction, to the viurs. This is very common, and can be scary if you dont know what is happening. If you cannot rule anything out, I would seriously consider this an option, and the most likely culprit. It will and should go away in a couple of days. GL.

Re: WWYD re: full body hives
A couple of recommendations/comments:
1. I'd take her to see an allergy specialist to follow up, I'd be calling Monday to make the appt. 2. Benedryl is actually pretty safe in the grand scheme of things, we carry it for DD's allergies and she's taken it with no issues. Plus it was one of the very few things during pregnancy I was allowed to take for allergies. I'd get a ped's opinion on that. 3. Ditto the pp who suggested a food diary, allergies are tough to pin down sometimes though. Lastly, I had hives like that when I was about 16, and they were miserable. To this day, we have no idea what they were from. I hope she feels better soon.

Re: WWYD re: full body hives
I have multiple severe allergies. Here is the main thing...looking at her pic, they are pretty bad. Allergies get worse with repeated exposure. I would take her in to get tested and figure out what she is allergic to, also I would ask for a epi pen junior in case she has another attack, and it becomes worse.
As for the hives, they are bothersome, and annoying...I would give her benedryl as well, it works better.

Claritin is a joke. My dd has allergies and the allergist says benadryl for attacks and zyrtec as a maintenance drug (if one is needed everyday).

Re: WWYD re: full body hives
When my dd had the hives, the pediatrician gave us a prescription for something called Clarinex that worked well and lasted longer.

buy selsum blue, the shampoo, it has the an ingredient that is the same med the rx a dr will give but is about $65 cheaper!
wash her body with it and she should be rid of the hives soon.

Re: WWYD re: full body hives
I can't be sure looking at your pics, but I'm actually wondering if that's not erythema multiforme minor. This is a pic I found on the internet
![]() It's usually viral in nature. But it can be from immunizations, medications or other types of illness. Sometimes we don't know what causes it. One thing for certain, it doesn't really respond much to benadryl, and it lasts a lot longer than just plain old hives.

Its going away today, quite a bit actually. She doesn't look nearly so bad. I'm relieved about that but still worried about what caused it in the first place. |
