Re: 5 VAX in one visit?

Isn't it so scary that we willing give something to our babies that could cause them harm!!! I feel the benefits do outway the risk, but there has to be a better way than sticking a baby 5 times with so many viruses that their little bodies can't handle it!

As far as juice at 4 months? omg...horrible, just horrible.

Hib (haemophilus influenza type b) there was a shortage on this one I think
PCV (pneumoccocal)
IPV (inactivated polio virus)

So what you got was pretty typical for a fully vaxing situation. Not ALL peds vaccinate on this schedule to a T. Some space them out a bit more. If I am remebering correctly there WAS a hib shortage so some babies missed out on that one for a while. (I know my DD didn't get hers at 15 months as per schedule) The rotovirus one is pretty new, but is oral and a lot of moms opt out of this one unless their baby goes to daycare.

As for the vitamins, solids, juice and all-that is all old school stuff and unnecessary.
Ok, i'm not that weirded out anymore. The only ones that they don't do up here are Hep B and Rotavirus. But the others are condensed into combo shots so it's only 2 injections.

My doc doesn't always have the combos...sometimes they only have individuals...don't know why. The last set of shot dd got was 6 vax's in 3 shots...way better then 5 needles like the first round!

Re: 5 VAX in one visit?

This is actually the reason we got kicked out of our pedi's office. My kids get all their vaxes but NOT at the same time. I never allow more than 2 shots at a time- one in each leg- so if there's a reaction I know which shot it was. Because of this, we delay because you can't give vaxes more than one time in a month. My pedi had to let us go because of it and I tried to talk myself into doing it and tell myself it would be ok, but when it came down to it, I can't do it. It's not ok with me.

Re: 5 VAX in one visit?

the scary part has nothing to do w/the number of needles...thats what big pharma likes to stuff down our throats...and why they can market those scary as heck combo shots. Its about WHAT garbage goes in all at once.

Re: 5 VAX in one visit?

oh that is terrible! Isn't the rotavirus vaccine liquid? If so, did they tell you that when she poops you need to be careful about handling it because you can catch it? They probably didn't...

YOU are the parent. YOU don't have to listen to them. You can arrange to go in at separate times and get the shots. My dr told me I could come in anytime and get any shot I wanted my DS to have. I don't even have to see her. She has it down in his records that he would come in for "shots only." The whole staff knows it.

On her next visit you don't have to get a single shot. Tell them she has a runny nose or something and you'll come in later. Or you can tell them you take her to the health clinic to have them done. Stand your ground with what you want to do. They can't do anything to you.

Vitamins and cereal????? My friend's doctor is very similar. My friend was ok with that stupid advice but to me it shows that they are not keeping up with modern knowledge. Don't they know that the new recommendations that came out last year say that a baby does not need solid food at all until past six months of age? And that 8 months is even better?

Juice? My dr was actually glad I didn't give my son juice! It's nothing but sugar! Even adults shouldn't drink it that much. Eat the fruit instead. Your baby doesn't need anything but BM right now, like everyone else has said.

If you can, find another dr. One who knows what a baby should have, and one who respects you as a parent. That is something I insist on. I even told the ped I first used that I would not be treated like I was stupid simply because I wasn't a dr.

to you and your little one.

We are in Sunny GA, so there isn't any lack for vit D here either!
Oh, and by the way, I love your babylegs!
How to go about it? Tell them you ain't doing it. Seriously. The CDC guidelines aren't written in stone. There are age ranges for every vax so even a ped who is staunchly pro-vax should be able to comprehend that all those don't have to be done at the same time. Geez. I'm mad for your baby. Between now and 4mos, do your research and decide what you want to do. Then when the time comes, tell them and make sure that they know that it's not open for discussion. Make sure that you verify with the nurse which vaxes are being given before she sticks your kid. And, just FYI, every clinic is required by federal law to provide you with a Vaccine Info Sheet prior to giving a shot and also to allow you the time to review it. You should get the sheets for the vaxes your child receives, look carefully and make sure those are also right as just another safeguard. Just be firm, mama. You have the right to decide what happens to your child.

With my 1st son we sat down and came up with a schedule that I was ok with and made general dates for when shots would be given. Believe he had to go in an extra time or two to get a few shots but it allowed him to only have no more than 3 at a time.
Also, he didn't have everything by Kindergarten like the schedule sets you up for, but in California you are ok to have just 1 dose of a few of them.. like chicken pox and Hep B I think.

My other kiddo's were all delayed from the get go and DS who starts kinder this year is also missing 3 but it's ok because they aren't mandatory. He will get them in 6 months when they normally should have been given a few months ago. He only had 2 at the time but normal before kinder is 4 or 5.

As for what your Dr. says.. so maybe they don't 'normally' do that.. but they sure can if you tell them to. If not, I'd find a new ped. if your uncomfortable.
The schedules are not set in stone and they are easily modified.
