Petroleum products, TTO, and lanolin questions

I read about products that say they don't contain petroleum, or lanolin, or TTO, as though these are things to avoid. But they don't say WHY. So I am asking:
Why?
What's bad/harmful about using the above in skin care products?

I want to know. Esp about TTO

well, vegetarians/vegans would be looking for something w/out lanolin but I'm not sure about the others.

hmm i dunno I love TTO it is so great for your hair. Lice is going around my kids preschool so I make SURE the TTO scent is in their hair to keep those nasty things away.

well... petroleum is basically crude oil refined in an oil refinery - who wants that on their face/bottom? LOL, people who want to create a barrier b/w the skin and the air (which is why it's a common ingredient in diaper rash ointments/creams)

TTO can be pretty strong for baby's skin so I wouldn't apply directly

and if you read this story you'll see why some folks are so freaked out about TTO & lavender.
I still use the EO's, in moderation is my motto

I didn't realize that lanolin would be on the list of no-nos for vegans. I guess this means wool is also since it is an animal product?

Thanks for the link to the article. This makes perfect sense. I would never use an EO full concentration anyway, but I was curious about why ENI's site says "no TTO for boys" or something to that effect.

I still don't get the petroleum thing. It's been refined and cleaned. Many things start out as something we wouldn't want to put on/in our bodies. Like honey. I mean, we eat bee PUKE!
