is spelt bread better for you?

is it healthier for you? is it more low fat? there is also another one that starts witha K and my brain has gone blank with the name. thanks! oh and can i just use spelt flour in replacement of regular in my bread machine?

MY AUNT AND UNCLE ARE ALLERGIC TO WHEAT AND THEY USE SPELT BREAD AND SPELT ENGLISH MUFFINS AND I HAVE TRIED AND I REALLY LIKE THE ENGLISH MUFFINS I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE NUTRITIONAL FACTORS ARE FOR COMPARISON I GUESS YOU WOULD JUST HAVE TO LOOK AT PACKAGE LABELS . MY AUNT USES SPELT FLOUR IN CAKES I DON'T KNOW IF THERE IS ANY ADJUSTMENTS YOU HAVE TO MAKE OR NOT.

Many people feel that in our society we are overexposed to wheat, gluten, etc. and therefore eating spelt as a whole grain can help eliminate some wheat from our diets. Of course for people with intolerance to wheat, spelt can be a great alternative (from what I understand).

i use it alot in my baking etc. I find it has a nuttier flavor

this is how i made my bread machine bread, if i used a whole grain flour i would add more gluten to make it rise more, otherwise it was way to heavy and dense for the kids to eat (but we do not have gluten issues)

One egg (at room temp) mixed with enough water (at room temp also) to equal one cup plus 6 teaspoons of fluid total.
3 Tablespoons soft butter.
3 Tablespoons brown sugar.
1 1/2 teaspoons salt.
2 cups whole wheat flour.
1 cup spelt flour.
1 1/2 Tablespns wheat gluten (makes the heavy flours rise better and taste less solid)
1 1/4 teaspoons bread machine yeast.

Cook on the whole wheat bread cycle and choose the light crust option.
