I've had mastitis three times since my 6 month-old was born, with the same symptoms you're describing. I did the above as well for two days, and when it kept getting worse, I finally called the doc and she prescribed an antibiotic. My doc said the key was how long it's been going on for - if the above doesn't work and you've been having symptoms for over 48 hrs., then it might be an infection and best to call the doc/nurse practitioner.

Before the antibiotics, I was told to keep up with the compresses (especially before eating/pumping) and massage it from the chest toward the nipple (like you're trying to dislodge the blockage). Good luck, I feel for ya!

I have heard mastitis is awful. Sorry to hear you have had it 3 times. I am glad mine passed.

Thanks for the support ladies. It is looking better today. I pumped, massaged, and used heat last night. I've massaged more today but not really anything coming out. So, I'm hoping that whatever it was it has cleared.
